Your comments

✎ Exmouth is a sandy beach with a blue flag rating. If there haven't been recent storms (which wash grass into the water), the water is very clear and blue on a nice day. It can get busy at weekends/in school holidays, but the beach is very large so this poses no problems. There are public toilets nearby, and the town itself is nice to walk through, with a train to Exeter that also goes to a number of other beach towns. You can buy ice cream, beach stuff and fish and chips from shops by the sea wall.
There are rock pools towards the Eastern end.
Tides are moderate and unlikely to strand you or ruin your stuff if you're sensible.
This beach has a lifeguard station and a guarded section. The lifeguards are on patrol from 10am -6pm from May to September. They also do weekends in April and the whole of Easter school holidays.
There are sometimes rips, which are usually red-flagged; there is a sandbar a bit beyond the beach at its West end so it's very calm around there.
The water temperature peaks around 18C but on a sunny mid-20s day it's very pleasant to swim in, especially in the warm shallows.
